How To Make A Crystal Snowflake Ornament

Creating your own holiday ornament is a great family tradition that many people incorporate into their winter season, and this easy 6-step process will show you how to make your own crystal snowflake. This snowflake's sparkly clusters are made by dipping shaped pipe cleaners into borax dissolved in boiling water with food coloring and as the water cools, borax forms crystals that cling to pipe cleaners, making for a cute and unique piece to add to your tree, wreath or to hang all on its own to add some extra holiday sparkle to your space!

What You’ll Need:

  • Pipe cleaners

  • scissors

  • String

  • Pencil

  • Jar

  • Borax

  • Blue food coloring

  • Boiling water

Instructions:

Step One:

Twist three 5-inch pieces of pipe cleaner together to form a snowflake, then add a 1 1/2-inch piece to each point.

Step Two:

Tie the snowflake with string to a pencil.

Step Three:

Find a big enough jar so the suspended snowflake won't touch the sides.

Step Four:

Fill the jar with 3 tablespoons of borax and 1 drop of blue food coloring per 1 cup of boiling water.

Step Five:

Hang the snowflake in the jar. Let it sit overnight, then remove it the next day.

Step Six:

Carefully tie string around the pipe cleaner. Now you can hang it wherever you’d like!
