Vermont's 2023 Flood: Resources & Ways to Get Help
Earlier this month the governor declared a state of emergency for Vermont due to heavy rainfall, washouts, road closures, and flooding. When the storm hit, both the Winooski and Lamoille rivers flooded, causing water levels to rise to an extremely high amount in several areas. Like everyone, we are saddened by all of the destruction that the storm has caused. We know many people, including our clients, that have been greatly affected by water in their basements, and the loss of personal property, and some have even lost part or all of their homes completely. The full scope of the loss and damage that has occurred is truly unimaginable and the full effects on some communities are probably still yet to be fully realized. If you have been affected, please know that we are thinking of you. The damage caused by this storm was somewhat unexpected for many and you may be wondering how you can get help, so we have put together a few resources for you below.

The American Red Cross of Northern New England
This is the worst natural disaster that has impacted Vermont since 1927. This heartbreaking event has surpassed the levels that were reached during Tropical Storm Irene in 2011. The American Red Cross has recognized the amount of care that our state needs, and has already jumped in to support Vermont.
To date, the American Red Cross has:
- Provided 10,650+ meals and snacks to communities
- Distributed almost 12,000 emergency relief kits and supplies to people throughout the state
- Provided 600+ overnight stays for almost 190 residents in four emergency shelters
- Brought in more than 200 people from across the county to travel to Vermont to aid in flood relief
Our state has such a strong and resilient community, and now it's time to work together to rebuild and strengthen Vermont once again. Many people are volunteering to help, providing drinking water and food to towns, and offering their time to work towards rebuilding and strengthening Vermont. Here at Templeton Real Estate Group, our hearts are with you and your family. Please continue to stay safe and if there is anything we can do to help, please don't hesitate to reach out. We are sending our thoughts to everyone who has been affected and we hope these resources are helpful to you and your loved ones.
